Architecture
The Architecture of A. Palladio: In Four Books ... Revis'd, Design'd and Publish'd by Giacomo Leoni … Translated from the Italian Original.
Andrea Palladio. 2 vols. London: John Darby for the Author, 1721.
Andrea Palladio’s celebrated treatise on classical architecture, I quattro libri dell’architettura (Venice, 1570), had a major influence on European and North American architecture in the centuries following its publication. Palladio’s principles were spread, in part, through the translation of the text into numerous languages. This is the second English edition, translated by Giacomo Leoni with engravings by Bernard Picart and other well-known artists of the period. The first English edition, also by Leoni, appeared just a few years earlier in 1715-1720.
