Title
Energy Turns the World: The 1982 World’s Fair.
Coverage
Knoxville, TN:
Date
May 1–October 31, 1982.
Description
The 1982 World’s Fair in Knoxville, TN, an international event, was built to celebrate energy and electricity generation. The hope was that the park would remain a viable tourist attraction. A University of Tennessee professor, Joseph Dodd, said ''the fair can only be described as a bust.” Its symbol, the “Sunsphere” still stands on the fairgrounds, but it never became a thriving park. President Reagan opened the Fair. Sometimes, if you build it, they may not come.
