The many novels featuring the knight Renaldos de Montalbán reflect the public’s apparent insatiable appetite for chivalric tales. At the heart of Renaldos de Montalbán lies the rivalry between the hero, the paragon of chivalric virtue, and his main adversary, the traitorous Galalon, brother-in-law of King Charlemagne. The title-page image is recycled from an earlier work with the figure of the hero clearly labelled.
