Title
“Our Men Want Books,” Victory Book Campaign Stamp
Date
1942-43
Description
To spread the message for the military’s need for books, the Victory Book Campaign turned to various publicity strategies. This decorative stamp was one promotional device. Notably, the eagle is carrying a stack of hardcover books. The American publishing industry’s preference for hardcover books (over paperbacks) was the main reason public book drives could not be relied upon to obtain the paperback books troops needed.
