The folio-size King’s Views are the largest and most impressive viewbooks regularly published on New York City. The hardcover versions, such as this one, use a very heavyweight paper stock. Four hundred views are claimed. The majority of the views are photographs, but King also used drawings for many buildings, some of which were being built, but some of which had been standing for some time. Harry M. Pettit was one of the artists who did many of the drawings. In the hardcover editions, King also had the unusual information “The Makers of This Book” in which he enumerates the many people and ?rms that helped produce the book. He notes that 130,000 copies of this 1906 edition were printed, though how many were hardcover and how many were softcover is not stated.
