Anyone traveling by rail in North America at the turn of the 20^th century would have consulted, or had a professional consult, The Official Guide of the Railways, more commonly called The Official Guide. This book listed nearly every passenger train in the United States and their schedules. It was an indispensable reference work for the prolific railroad traveler or travel agent and remained so until the 1970’s.
