Christmas fell midway through the eight-month run of Sherlock Holmes at the Royal Lyceum Theatre in London (September 1901–April 1902), and to mark the holiday the American actor produced this charming booklet. On the verso is his handwritten note to his friend and collaborator, its warmth and humor reflecting what was to become an enduring friendship: “Did you ever imagine that Sherlock would be sending his compliments to his maker?”
