Arthur Griffith, founder of Sinn Fein, indefatigable writer and newspaper editor, and head of the delegation that negotiated the Anglo-Irish Treaty and President of the Dail Eireann, collapsed and died on August 12, 1922, from a cerebral hemorrhage. He was fifty-one years old.
