Description

Inscribed. Quarto, original half blue levant morocco gilt over stamped boards, the upper cover with a motif of the Alva's flag, illustrated endpapers. Rives/BFK paper. Illustrated with 7 plates by William Belanske, 169 photographs, 13 charts and calligraphic end-papers. Between 1928 and 1929, Vanderbilt circumnavigated the world on a retrofitted French warship, collecting specimens of invertebrate and marine life and birds and cultural artifacts.
