I collect books that gather, sort, and catalog. I like books because they are dense piles in small containers. I think publishing can be a way of noticing and focusing a view.
Karen Reimer. Legendary, Lexical, Loquacious, Love Sara Ranchouse Publishing, 1996
Karen Reimer took an existing romance novel and alphabetized it. All the words of the original text are there, but they are in a different order. I love how simple and odd this is. You can still read the alphabetized book and get a sense of the story. You get the sentiments of the novel in a totally different form.
Jason Polan The Every Piece Of Art In The Museum Of Modern Art Book Jason Polan, 2006.
In 2005, from January 19 to January 31, Jason Polan drew every piece of art on display in the Museum of Modern Art. This book presents every one of those drawings. For me, there is something magical about a book that is both rigorous and complete. There is nothing that could be added to this book. We see the whole museum through Jason’s hand. The twelve days he spent looking are contained and preserved in these pages.
Victor David Dinnerstein The Wit and Wisdom of Spiro T. Agnew Price/Stern/Sloan, 1969.
This is a classic example of a blank political gag book. After a short introduction, all the book’s pages are left blank. I like books that play with our expectations.
