Description
Written on May 9th 1796 as Napoleon is conquering Italy, this passionate letter is an answer to Josephine’s letter announcing that she is pregnant and therefore cannot travel to join him. It is a blatant lie of course: Josephine is having a wonderful time in Paris with her lover and has no intention of joining her new husband on the battlefields.
