Description

The Cancionero general is by far the most important collection of Spanish poetry of the 15th and early 16th centuries, although nothing is known about its compiler Fernando del Castillo. The work contains over 1,000 poems by 128 named poets and many dozens of unnamed ones. It was an instant success with numerous revised or expanded editions following throughout the 16th century and was the most read songbook of the Spanish Golden Age.
