Description

This richly illustrated manuscript was produced during the 15th century in France. Written by an anonymous author ca. 1450, the text draws on both folkloric and literary sources (e.g. Boccaccio’s Decameron). The plot centers on Philippe, the Count Artois, who abandons his wife when it appears that she is unable to bear children and sets off in pursuit of chivalric prowess. The manuscript includes 83 finely crafted vignettes illustrating episodes from nearly every stage of the narrative.

Este manuscrito ricamente ilustrado se produjo durante el siglo XV en Francia. Escrito por un autor anónimo ca. 1450, el texto utiliza fuentes folclóricas y literarias (por ejemplo, el Decamerón de Boccaccio). La trama se centra en Philippe, el Conde Artois, que abandona a su esposa cuando descubree que esta no puede tener hijos, y parte en búsqueda de hazañas caballerescas.
