Description

This incunable is a work of historical significance as the first printed translation of the Bible into a modern romance language spoken in the Iberian Peninsula, lemosí [Valencian]. Banned by the Holy Inquisition, all copies were destroyed; this leaf, the only known surviving fragment, escaped destruction through having been bound into a manuscript history of the Carthusian monastery of Porta Coeli. Fortunately, this surviving leaf bears the colophon which describes the book’s history.
