Description

So Long, Hot-Metal Men is comprised of sample settings of metal type, both foundry type and Monotype, from the twentieth century, preceded by a foreword which attempts to explain the different kinds of cast metal type produced in that century (including Linotype, Ludlow, etc.).

Looking at these examples of the products of the great type designers and type foundries of the twentieth century, when metal type production reached a pinnacle, only to become all but defunct within a few short decades, cannot help but lead one to an appreciation of the craftspeople who worked in the laborious field of metal typography from Gutenberg to the Golganooza type foundry – and beyond.
