The original Fuse was a loose amalgamation of four prominent British graphic designers: Phil Baines, Neville Brody, Malcolm Garrett, and Ian Swift. International in outlook, the publication was distributed by FontShop International of Berlin, Germany.
The late twentieth century had its grunge movement in music, and Fuse might be said to represent an analogous movement in typography. Like earlier radical art movements such as Dada and Futurism, Fuse is articulate in stating its principles.
